LABELS
Labeling Laws and Food Allergen Labeling
On January 1, 2006 the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) implemented Public Law 108-282- (FALCPA) Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act. It is mandatory that allergens from the eight major sources be identified on all product labels.
What Are the Eight Major Food Allergens?
- Milk
- Eggs
- Fish
- Crustacean Shellfish
- Tree Nuts
- Wheat
- Peanuts
- Soybeans
The new laws pertaining to health precautions require an information panel on the labeling of all food items processed at Onofrio’s Ultimate Foods. To protect and ensure the safety of all our food products that are distributed from our plant, we must list all food allergens and trans-fats that are associated with the creation of your product. This information must be present on all labels using their common or usual name. Please refer to the FDA’s website, for the most up-to-date label laws. If you have any questions, our staff is available to assist you. If you do not have a label company, we have a few great ones that we can recommend.
UPC (Universal Product Code or Bar Codes)
Every product in the supermarket has a UPC. UPCs were originally created to help grocery stores speed up the checkout process and keep better track of inventory, but the system quickly spread to all other retail products because it was so successful. Onofrio’s Ultimate Foods can provide you with bar code service.
Nutrition Facts
On nutrition data labels, you’ll find detailed nutritional information, plus unique analysis tools that tell you more about how foods affect your health and make it easier to choose healthy foods. All labels must declare all trans-fat as required by the FDA. Onofrio’s Ultimate Foods can assist you with getting nutritional facts.
